Château Pavie’s slope and that of Ausone were chosen by the Romans for the first vine plantings in the Saint-Émilion area in the 4th century. Ferdinand Bouffard inherited the estate in 1873. In 1919, Albert Porte became director, sold Pavie-Pigasse, and unified the other estates to officially create Château Pavie. Alexandre Valette took charge of the estate in 1943 before handing it over to his grandson Jean-Paul Valette in 1957. The estate was classified as 1er Grand Cru Classé 'B' in 1955. Gérard Perse and his wife Chantal purchased Château Pavie in 1998, and the estate was promoted to 1er Grand Cru Classé 'A' in 2012. Located in Saint-Émilion, the 42-hectare estate holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) level 3 certification. Harvesting is conducted entirely by hand, and vineyard yields average 30 hectoliters per hectare. Its wines include Château Pavie and Arômes de Pavie.
