Château Coutet received its current name from Sieur François Coutet in the 15th century. In 1601, the estate was owned by Thomas d'Augereau, mayor of Libourne, married to Marie David. André David Beaulieu, a naturalist and ornithologist, managed Château Coutet until 1969.

Its wines include Saint-Émilion and Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. The Saint-Martin plateau section encompasses 4.5 hectares, the Côte de Franc section comprises 3.5 hectares, and the pied de côte section accounts for 5 hectares. Grape varieties planted are 60% Merlot, 30% Bouchet (Cabernet Franc), 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Pressac (local Malbec). Planting density is approximately 6,000 vines per hectare, while the average vine age is 41 years, with the oldest exceeding 80 years. Certified organic since 2012, vine maintenance is done by hand with no synthetic chemical treatments such as weedkillers or pesticides ever used. Pruning is single Guyot in winter, supplemented by an extra pass after flowering to manage grape and canopy load. Harvesting is conducted entirely by hand using crates, with grape varieties picked at different times according to ripeness.
