Cape Mentelle was established in 1970 by David Hohnen and his brothers Mark and Giles Hohnen. It won the Jimmy Watson Memorial Award in 1983 and again in 1984, and its owner is Paragon Wine Estates (Endeavour Group Limited).

The estate initially had 16 hectares of vines, followed by the 23-hectare Trinders Vineyard planted in 1988 and the Chapman Brook Vineyard established in the early 1990s. Farming practices include a cover cropping program promoting soil health and attracting beneficial insects, with compost made from grape marc and woodchips applied using precision viticulture techniques. In the winery, 100% of water used is recycled via a self-contained rain and surface water treatment system, and certifications include Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, Entwine accreditation obtained in 2010, and ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification.
On VinoVoss, Cape Mentelle has 3 wines in stock: 2 red, 1 white. Their average rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 107 ratings.
