This Montepulciano d'Abruzzo presents a deep ruby hue, indicative of its robust character. The nose is a harmonious blend of ripe black cherries and plums, underscored by subtle notes of dried herbs and a hint of anise. On the palate, it offers a medium to full-bodied structure with velvety tannins and a vibrant acidity that enlivens its fruit-forward profile. The finish is long and persistent, revealing layers of dark chocolate and a whisper of earthy minerality. This wine exemplifies the quintessential balance and rustic elegance characteristic of the Abruzzo region, making it a compelling choice for seasoned palates.

We are 50+ wine professionals (sommeliers, buyers, MW candidates) across the US, UK, France, Greece, Italy, and beyond. We review wines via blind tastings with a standardized rubric, using both 100-point and 5-star scales.

Spasso Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is crafted from the Montepulciano grape, grown in the hilly Abruzzo region of central Italy, where the Adriatic Sea's breezes and the Apennine Mountains' influence create a unique microclimate. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve its natural fruit character, followed by a brief period in oak to add subtle complexity. This medium-bodied red offers vibrant notes of dark cherry and plum, supported by balanced acidity and soft tannins. It is designed for immediate enjoyment, pairing well with a variety of dishes, from pasta to grilled meats.
