Scarpetta Barbera del Monferrato 2023

Dense, rich red wine with a rich, ripe fruit profile featuring blackberry, plum, and chocolate notes, graceful by a firm tannic structure. The impression is initially sharp, with a pronounced acidity that lingers, followed by a subtle integration of unripe fruit flavors. The lasting impression is long and satisfying, but ultimately, the wine's youth and lack of maturity are evident, making it a drink best suited for young, adventurous palates.

Visually stunning wine, its presentation is a feast for the eyes. The initial sweetness of the fruit is quickly tempered by a rich, molasses-like depth, but the close reveals a coppery, bright quality that hangs on the palate. The wine's richness is evident, with tastes unfolding from the front of the mouth to the back, a true delight for the senses.

My experience with this wine was marred by a persistent sulfur taste that made it unpalatable. I'm not sure if the corking was the cause, but it's definitely a drawback.
