I decided to try something a bit unconventional tonight - a Californian Chardonnay. The glass was pale gold, with nothing in particular striking on the nose. However, as I sipped, I was surprised by the structure of this Chardonnay. It started with a sweet orange and pineapple flavor, but quickly gave way to a rich, buttery taste similar to of popcorn and caramel. The linger was clean and refreshing, with a nice symmetry of acidity. Overall, it was a inviting change of pace from my usual mineral-driven Chardonnay. I'm looking forward to returning to this one.
