This Marche Rosso captivates with its deep ruby hue and an aromatic bouquet that unfolds layers of ripe black cherry, plum, and subtle hints of dried herbs. On the palate, it reveals a robust structure, with firm tannins and a vibrant acidity that seamlessly integrate with flavors of dark berries and a whisper of earthy minerality. The wine's complexity is further enhanced by a long, savory finish, marked by a touch of spice. Exemplifying the character of Marche, this wine is a testament to the region's potential for producing expressive and balanced reds.

We are 50+ wine professionals (sommeliers, buyers, MW candidates) across the US, UK, France, Greece, Italy, and beyond. We review wines via blind tastings with a standardized rubric, using both 100-point and 5-star scales.

La Marca di San Michele Bastian Contrario Marche Rosso is crafted from Montepulciano grapes grown in the Marche region of Italy, benefiting from a Mediterranean climate with cooling sea breezes. The wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks, preserving the grape's natural fruit character. It is then aged in large oak barrels, allowing for subtle integration of flavors without overpowering the fruit. This wine is designed to be approachable yet complex, offering a balance of rich fruit notes and a structured finish, suitable for immediate enjoyment or short-term cellaring.
