Voss Expert4.5/5

Voss Expert tasting note

A vibrant expression of Gamay Noir, this wine presents a translucent ruby hue, exuding aromas of wild strawberry, red currant, and a whisper of violet. On the palate, it showcases an elegant structure with fine-grained tannins and a lively acidity that underscores its freshness. The mid-palate reveals layers of cranberry and pomegranate, interwoven with subtle notes of white pepper and a hint of earthiness, characteristic of its terroir. The finish is long and precise, with a mineral edge that speaks to its cool-climate origins, making it a quintessential representation of modern Californian Gamay.

Jolie-Laide Gamay Noir is crafted from grapes grown in the cool-climate vineyards of California's Sierra Foothills. This region benefits from significant diurnal temperature shifts, which help preserve the natural acidity and vibrant fruit character of the wine. The Gamay Noir grapes are hand-harvested and undergo whole-cluster fermentation, enhancing the wine's aromatic profile and adding a touch of complexity. Minimal intervention winemaking is employed, with aging taking place in neutral oak barrels to maintain purity of fruit. The result is a light-bodied red wine with bright red berry flavors, lively acidity, and a fresh, approachable style.
