Excelsior Syrah is praised for its balanced blend of cherry, cranberry, and spices, with a mellow finish. While some appreciate its nuanced cedar and black cherry notes, others enjoy its light plum and berry profile with spice. The wine is described as clean, bright, and well-balanced, offering good value. Opinions vary on its body, with some finding it full-bodied, others lighter.
Displaying a deep garnet hue, the Excelsior Syrah opens with a bouquet of ripe blackberries, cracked black pepper, and subtle violet undertones, indicative of its varietal purity. The palate is robust yet elegantly structured, featuring layers of dark plum and licorice interwoven with hints of flintd meat and a touch of earthiness. Firm tannins and a balanced acidity provide a solid backbone, leading to a lingering finish with whispers of mocha and spice. This Syrah exemplifies the New World style, offering both immediate appeal and potential for further complexity with short-term cellaring.
