Eulogio Pomares' Mencia is a decent effort, but it falls short of his white wines in terms of complexity and vibrancy. The 7-month aging in oak and cement foudres adds a certain level of maturity, but it's not enough to elevate the wine beyond its plain, lacking crispness and gentle tannins. The suggestions of tobacco, ripe red berries, and sweet earth & violets are intriguing, but they don't quite come together to create a compelling whole. The wine's improved character after a short time in the bottle is a welcome surprise, but it's not enough to justify the price. Overall, it's a solid, if unremarkable, wine.
