Domaine des Pothiers Romain Paire Côte Roannaise which translates to the ‘the hills are on fire’ is produced in the village of Villemontais, in the south part of the Côte Roannaise located in the Loire Valley. It overlooks the Loire river and the foothills of the Massif Central. Their vineyard holdings are only slightly more than 230 hectares (568 acres) of vines planted on the best granitic hills, between 400 and 500 meters (1200ft to 1500 ft) of elevation.
The winery is modern and the estate has converted to organic then biodynamic growing. Hailing from 30-70 year old vines, the grapes are manually sorted in the vineyard.
In the cellar, 2/3 of the berries are destemmed then alcoholic fermentation takes place with maceration for 12 days and occasional punching down.
The wine is then aged for 10 months in concrete tanks, resulting in light red that has vibrant fruit aromatics and a fresh and seriously persistent palate.
