I thoroughly appreciated more than C and Doha, and I recall it tasting better than I initially thought, even if I was in the minority.

Robust and layered wine with a deep, earthy character, paired by the mild sweetness of black fruit and the freshness of black currants and plum.

The nose is marked by by paraffin, a harsh and uninviting quality that sets the tone for the rest of the review. The texture is influenced by by cherry cola, a sweet and fruity note that quickly gives way to a warm, spicy sensation that fades slowly on the finish. The mid-range tones are a bit more subdued, with a nuance of vanilla adding a touch of creaminess to the as a whole experience.

What the web is saying

Department 66 Pharaon is praised for its rich, full-bodied nature with deep, earthy notes and a complex blend of black fruit, spices, and vanilla. While some appreciate its bold and intricate character, others find the oakiness overpowering. The wine's smooth texture and long finish are consistently highlighted, though its scarcity is noted. It's a versatile wine, suitable for both casual and special occasions.

Voss Experts4.5

The Department 66 Pharaon is an exceptional wine that showcases the unique characteristics of the Roussillon region in France. This red wine is a blend of Syrah and Grenache grapes, resulting in a complex and well-balanced flavor profile. On the nose, the Pharaon offers enticing aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and hints of spice. These aromas continue onto the palate, where they are complemented by notes of black pepper, licorice, and a touch of earthiness. The wine has a full-bodied structure with velvety tannins and a long, lingering finish. The Department 66 Pharaon is a wine that can be enjoyed now, but it also has the potential to age gracefully. Its bold flavors and elegant structure make it a perfect companion for hearty dishes such as grilled meats, stews, or aged cheeses. Overall, the Department 66 Pharaon is a remarkable wine that exemplifies the richness and complexity of the Roussillon region. Its well-crafted blend of grape varieties and its ability to age make it a standout choice for wine enthusiasts seeking a truly exceptional experience.
