A deep, inky hue introduces this Sonoma Syrah, with a bouquet that unfurls layers of blackcurrant, cracked pepper, and a hint of violet. On the palate, it reveals a robust structure, with firm tannins and a vibrant acidity that harmonizes with flavors of ripe plum, dark chocolate, and a whisper of smoked meat. The mid-palate is rich and expansive, leading to a lingering finish accented by notes of graphite and a touch of anise. This Syrah exemplifies the balance and depth characteristic of its cool-climate origins, promising both immediate pleasure and potential for aging.

Gift with a decent nose, but ultimately lacking in layers and complexity. The components have a tendency to separate, leaving a sense of disconnection. The acidity is high, but lacks a satisfying finish.

The 2009 Davis Family Vineyards Guyzer Block Syrah has a decent nose but is criticized for lacking layers and complexity. Some find the components disjointed with high acidity and an unsatisfying finish.
