The 1904 Zinfandel from Croix Estate is a masterclass in balance and intensity, showcasing the varietal's quintessential character. In the glass, it presents a deep garnet hue, hinting at its concentration. The nose is a symphony of ripe blackberries, dark cherry compote, and a whisper of cracked black pepper, underpinned by subtle notes of cedar and vanilla from well-judged oak maturation. On the palate, it is full-bodied and plush, with velvety tannins and a vibrant acidity that enlivens the rich fruit core. The finish is long and layered, echoing with hints of cocoa and a touch of dried herbs, marking it as a standout example of California Zinfandel.

Jeva
Opulent and luscious, with a round structure that blankets the palate, this wine is a masterclass in stability and refinement. The bold fruit flavors, particularly plum and blackberry, are expertly integrated with mild traces of tobacco, pepper, and violet, creating a harmonious and rich experience.
Reuben
Voluptuous and textured wine with a bold and intense character, featuring concentrated cherry and chocolate notes, alongside voluptuous fruit and molasses flavors, even by round tannins and a touch of sweetness.
Geisler
I thoroughly enjoy this wine. It is one of the most sophisticated Zinfandels I've encountered. It is remarkably full-bodied, with a high alcohol content, but its tannins are well-balanced, yielding a mellow texture. The fruit profile is recognized by dark, lush accents of blackberry, blueberry, and plum, with gentle touches of chocolate, vanilla, and cocoa. The sophistication of the wine is impressive, with a rich, gratifying finish. It pairs well with full bodied red meats, such as braised beef short ribs, and stands up to even the most challenging cuts. I highly recommend it.

Croix Estate 1904 Zinfandel is celebrated for its rich, full-bodied character and harmonious blend of bold fruit flavors like blackberry, plum, and cherry. While some appreciate its smooth tannins and notes of chocolate and vanilla, others highlight its mild forest floor and pepper nuances. The wine's round structure and long, satisfying finish make it a sophisticated choice, though its high alcohol content may not suit everyone.
