Settlement Wines

Settlement Wines is a Marlborough wine brand founded by Steve Planthaber after 12 years working in production and operations at Cloudy Bay Vineyards. As owner and winemaker, he is involved from selecting organic fruit from single vineyard sites through to bottling.

Settlement Wines sources its wines from individual sites in the Wairau and Southern Valleys, with silty clay loams, established vines and organic farming practices. Heritage Vineyard supplies Settlement's Sauvignon Blanc fruit from a flat, north-facing site on the southern side of the Wairau Valley, with silty clay loams over clay subsoil. Planting began there in 1990 and continued until 1995; conversion to organic certification began in 2009, and the established vines received full certification in 2012. Settlement Wines follows a low-intervention winemaking style, and its wines include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir.
