Scheid Vineyards is a label of Scheid Family Wines in Monterey County, where Al Scheid first purchased property in early 1972. Originally called Monterey Farming Corporation, Scheid Family Wines spent about its first 15 years growing grapes and selling its entire production to other wineries for their brands. In 1986, Scheid Family Wines welcomed Al’s eldest son, Scott, after his work as a Wall Street options trader, and subsequently his daughter Heidi, who had worked as a business valuation consultant.

Scheid Family Wines owns twelve estate vineyards along a 70-mile stretch of the Salinas Valley, all within the Monterey AVA. Scheid Family Wines’ early plantings included Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Ruby Cabernet, Flora and Tinta Madeira. In 1989, Scheid Family Wines began upgrading its irrigation systems to drip irrigation to conserve water. Scheid Vineyards’ small-production wines are crafted at the smaller Reserve Winery.
