La Rioja Alta was founded in 1890 as Sociedad Vinícola de La Rioja Alta in Haro’s Barrio de la Estación by five Riojan and Basque families. Its first president was Saturnina García Cid y Gárate, and its first winemaker was the Frenchman Monsieur Vigier. In 1904, founder Alfredo Ardanza, who also owned Bodega Ardanza, proposed merging the two companies, an event commemorated with Reserva 1904. Later, in 1974, the Viña Arana brand replaced 6º Año.

La Rioja Alta built a new winery in Labastida in 1996. Its wines include Gran Reserva 890, Gran Reserva 904, Viña Arana Gran Reserva, Viña Ardanza and Viña Alberdi Selección Especial.
On VinoVoss, La Rioja Alta has 6 wines in stock: 6 red. Their average rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 4,385 ratings.
