Château Prignac was previously called Domaine de Tartuguière, named after turtles in nearby ponds. The Castel family purchased Domaine de Tartuguière in 1973 and renamed it Château Tour Prignac. Vanessa Trouy took over management of Château Tour Prignac following the retirement of former estate manager Yannick Gay.

The estate covers an overall area of 300 hectares, with 144 hectares for wine production and 156 hectares that remain unplanted, including 4 hectares planted with wild flowers housing beehives. Vine planting density is 7,200 vines per hectare, planted with 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, and 3% Petit Verdot. Chemical weedkillers were abandoned in favour of grass covers and soil tillage, and the estate holds Terra Vitis certification. The winery utilizes temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, and wines are aged in French oak barrels for 10 to 14 months, with one third of the oak barrels in the cellar replaced every year.
