Founded in 1912 with 6 hectares of polyculture, Château Haut-Goujon was taken over in 1932 by founder Élie Garde's son, Robert Garde. Following Robert's death in 1945, his 15-year-old son Henri took over. Henri married Liliane in 1957, replanting and enlarging the estate over two decades. In 1995, SCEA Garde et Fils was established with the three children working on the property alongside their parents. Henri Garde passed away in 2013, his children continuing the family work.

Located a few kilometers from Libourne, northeast of Bordeaux, the 18-hectare estate has clay-sandy soils in Montagne Saint-Émilion and clay-sandy-gravelly soils in Lalande de Pomerol. Grapes grown are 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4.5% Cabernet Franc, 4.5% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot. A new vat house was built in 2016, vinification takes place without added sulfites, and a portion of production is aged in new French oak barrels for 12 months.
