Black Cottage

Black Cottage is a family-run winery founded by Dave Clouston, with a cottage beside Marlborough’s Ōpaoa River. He and winemaker Sanna Stander use the cottage to host international guests and friends.

Vineyards, native plantings, olive trees and a cricket ground surround the cottage, while fruit for the wines is selected from Marlborough, Central Otago and Hawke’s Bay. Its wines include Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery participates in the Sustainable Winegrowers New Zealand programme and increased biodiversity in 2020 by planting over 500 native plants along the Ōpaoa River’s banks. Its environmental measures also extend to packaging, with lightweight bottles used to reduce carbon emissions.
