Alto de la Ballena began with Paula Pivel and Alvaro Lorenzo’s 1998 decision to establish a small winery in Maldonado, southeastern Uruguay. In late 2003, Pivel left banking to manage the winery full time. The first harvest followed in 2005, and the first wines were released in 2007.

Located 15 km from the coast, the site combines ocean air and hillside soils. Its vineyards cover just over 8 hectares, planted with Merlot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Viognier. Duncan Killiner is its consulting enologist, and its wines include a Tannat-Viognier blend.
On VinoVoss, Alto de la Ballena has 1 wine in stock: 1 red. Their average rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 16 ratings.
