A Croatian wine tasting experience, primarily during a late 2021 trip, left me underwhelmed. The 2015 vintage, which started quietly, was vintured twice, resulting in a noticeable reduction in sulfur levels. The nose reveals a pungent, earthy character echoing of 'twigs & dirt', while the fruit profile is light and strawberry-cherry. However, the linger is watery and musty, with a tobacco-like undertone. The wine's altogether quality is inconsistent, with some examples being more introductory than others. The 2015 Croatian wines are not in particular expensive, but their light, muddy style is not specifically desirable in the U.S. market. The 2015 Posip, in particular, is a notable exception, but its deal is limited by its price point.
