Zinke Grenache 2017

We discovered this winery many years ago and had a pleasing pleasure in their tasting room in Los Olivos. We joined their wine club. Over time, we observed a shift in the wine's popularity, followed by a change in the winemaker's decision to cease production. This Grenache, in particular, experienced a decline in quality, and its counterpart, the Gypsy, stood out as a standout. Despite this, we remain hopeful that the winemaker's vision for the Grenache will be realized in future releases. This wine falls short of its former excellence, leaving us with a sense of disappointment.

Decent but not elite Central Coast Grenache, but not worth the premium for the price, in my view. 81% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre, 7% Syrah, natural yeast fermentation, 15% whole cluster, 22 months neutral French oak. Sample.\n\nThis wine has a medium body, with a mix of red fruit and soft whispers of cherries, raspberries, and violet. The oak adds a touch of vanilla and a dash of smoothness, but the tannins are on the lighter side. The bracing quality is moderate, and the close is dry and pleasant. Overall, it's a solid elite for those looking for a crowd-pleasing wine, but it doesn't offer much in terms of finesse or nuance for the price.

Truly impressive wine that offers amazing worth for its price. The color is a light or pale garnet, with soft traces of red berries, such as slightly under-ripe strawberries and possibly pomegranate. The nose is powered by by black pepper and dried herbal notes, with a note of sandalwood. The follow through is light and refreshing, with a pleasant, lingering aftertaste. Overall, a very pleasant and comforting wine that is well worth the price.
