Muffels
A well-chosen location for this wine, and a fitting top pick for its characteristics. A balanced evenness of flavors. The oak and blackberry suggestions are nicely balanced. The cedar and eucalyptus add depth. A good representation of the Merlot style.
Rexanna Vavtar
Despite its voluptuous and nuanced profile, Merlot is often overlooked in favor of more premium varietals. However, as a grape, it is capable of producing a wide range of styles, from smooth and enjoyable to hearty and full-bodied. When paired with the right combination of ingredients, Merlot can add complexity and nuance to a dish, making it a versatile and reliable choice. As a result, it is often used in a variety of applications, from cooking to winemaking.
Hideji
Subtle and elegant wine, presenting the nuances of blackberries and a nuanced oak influence. Its gentle conclusion and dry nature make it an excellent pairing for a well-cooked steak, as one would expect from a full-bodied merlot.

Shafer Merlot is praised for its rich, full-bodied profile with flavors of black cherry, blackberry, and chocolate. The wine's smooth tannins and balanced oak notes are appreciated, though some find it pricey. While many enjoy its complexity and long finish, a few note it lacks refinement compared to other varietals. Overall, it's a versatile wine, ideal for pairing with red meats and aging well over time.
This Shafer wine is a stunning example of Napa Valley Merlot. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of dark cherries, cranberries, and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe tannins and a nice balance of acidity. Flavors of dark cherries, blackberry jam, and spices are complemented by hints of vanilla and mocha. The finish is long and silky, with lingering notes of earth and forest floor. Overall, this is a wine of great complexity and depth that will continue to evolve in the cellar.
