Voss Expert4.5/5

Voss Expert tasting note

This Merlot from Shabo's Grande Reserve exhibits a deep garnet hue, indicative of its concentrated nature. The bouquet unfolds with layers of ripe black cherry, plum, and cassis, interwoven with subtle notes of forest floor, cedar, and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied structure, with velvety tannins and a balanced acidity that enhances its complexity. The mid-palate offers a harmonious blend of fruit and spice, leading to a lingering finish with echoes of espresso and graphite. This wine exemplifies the finesse and depth characteristic of premium Ukrainian Merlot, suitable for cellaring or immediate enjoyment.

Shabo Grande Reserve Merlot is crafted from grapes grown in the temperate climate of Ukraine's Shabo region, where the Black Sea's moderating influence ensures a balanced ripening season. This Merlot is vinified using traditional techniques, with fermentation taking place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the grape's natural fruit character. The wine is then aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels, imparting subtle vanilla and spice notes. The result is a medium-bodied wine with ripe plum and cherry flavors, complemented by soft tannins and a smooth finish, suitable for immediate enjoyment or short-term cellaring.
