Raphaël Bartucci established himself in the 1980s, initially planting a few vines on his property, which has now expanded to just over 2 hectares. Surrounded by friends and personalities in the natural wine scene, notably Pierre Overnoy, Bartucci passionately tends to his small parcels with a deep connection to the land. His sparkling wines have become a benchmark. Cerdon, nestled in the Bugey appellation of the southern Jura mountains, stands as one of three sub-appellations. Here, sparkling rosés crafted from Gamay and Poulsard grapes shine. Bartucci employs the méthode ancestrale, eschewing additional yeasts or sugars during production, resulting in wines with noticeable residual sugar and a distinct grapey flavor.
The Cerdon cru encompasses vineyards encircling the quaint village of Cerdon within the Ain administrative department. Positioned amidst a landscape of chaotic topography, the village resides amidst rounded hills, ridges, and narrow valleys characteristic of the southern Jura mountains. Divided between slopes west and south of the village, the vineyards boast steep, southeast-facing aspects with free-draining soils—ideal conditions for grape ripening.
Basking in prolonged sunshine, the vines benefit from the gentle morning rays, fostering a leisurely ripening pace that preserves acidity and optimizes flavor development by harvest time. Bartucci's Bugey Cerdon Méthode Ancestrale encapsulates the essence of this terroir, offering a sparkling rosé with a delightful balance of sweetness, red fruits nuances, and the terroir-driven complexity emblematic of the region's winemaking heritage.
