The 2020 Picchioni Andrea Solinghino is a masterclass in balance and expression from the Oltrepò Pavese region. Its deep ruby hue introduces a bouquet of black cherry, wild plum, and a whisper of dried herbs, underscored by a subtle minerality. On the palate, the wine reveals a structured yet supple body, with fine-grained tannins and a vibrant acidity that carries flavors of ripe red berries and a hint of dark chocolate. The finish is long and harmonious, echoing the wine's refined complexity. This is a quintessential representation of its terroir, poised for both immediate enjoyment and short-term aging.

We are 50+ wine professionals (sommeliers, buyers, MW candidates) across the US, UK, France, Greece, Italy, and beyond. We review wines via blind tastings with a standardized rubric, using both 100-point and 5-star scales.

Picchioni Andrea Solinghino is crafted in the Oltrepò Pavese region of Lombardy, Italy, an area known for its diverse microclimates and calcareous clay soils. This red wine is produced from a blend of indigenous grape varieties, primarily Croatina and Barbera, which are hand-harvested to ensure optimal ripeness. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruit character, followed by a period of aging in neutral oak barrels to enhance complexity without overpowering the wine's natural flavors. The result is a balanced wine with vibrant acidity and a medium-bodied structure, suitable for enjoying with a variety of dishes.
