Matchbook Petite Sirah is praised for its rich, full-bodied profile with notes of blackberry, plum, and spice. Many enjoy its smooth texture and long finish, while some find the tannins a bit heavy. The wine's balance of fruit and oak is appreciated, though a few mention it can be intense and needs time to breathe. Overall, it's considered a good value for its price.
Inky and opaque, the Matchbook Petite Sirah reveals a bouquet of ripe blackberries, plums, and a hint of violet, underscored by subtle notes of dark chocolate and peppery spice. The full-bodied palate is robust and densely structured, showcasing a harmonious interplay of concentrated dark fruit flavors and firm, yet polished tannins. A thread of vibrant acidity provides balance, leading to a lingering finish with nuances of espresso and a whisper of vanilla. This wine exemplifies the bold character typical of California Petite Sirah, offering both immediate appeal and potential for further development with short-term cellaring.
