WINE DESCRIPTION

Elvio Cogno Barbera d'Alba Pre-Phylloxera is made exclusively with the local Barbera grape, sourced from pre-phylloxera vines. The old vines tend to produce lower yields of intensely concentrated fruit that leads to profound wines with great depth and intensity. The grapes are sourced from the village of Alba, located within the region of Piedmont in Northeast Italy. The wine is aged for around 12 months in French oak barrels, which increases the wine's aromatic complexity as well as improving the texture.

The Elvio Cogno Barbera d'Alba Pre-Phylloxera presents a deep, almost opaque ruby-purple color on pouring.On the nose, the wine is a little reticent at first, slowly revealing layers of dark fruit, hinting at black cherries and plums. The fruit aromas are accompanied by subtle hints of spice, dried herbs and earth. The palate has a full body and a velvety texture that coats the mouth. The flavors are beautifully balanced, with the ripe dark fruits complemented by a touch of oak adding a gentle smokiness and a hint of vanilla to the finish.
