Voss Expert4.5/5

Voss Expert tasting note

This Carmenere from De Martino presents a deep ruby hue, indicative of its concentrated nature. The bouquet is a complex interplay of blackcurrant, green peppercorn, and subtle graphite, underscored by a touch of flinty oak. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied structure with velvety tannins, balanced by a vibrant acidity that elevates its dark fruit core. Notes of plum and black cherry are complemented by a hint of bittersweet chocolate, leading to a long, peppery finish. This wine exemplifies the quintessential Carmenere profile, showcasing both varietal purity and the expressive terroir of Chile's Maipo Valley.

De Martino Carmenere is crafted from grapes grown in the Maipo Valley, Chile, a region known for its Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This climate allows for optimal ripening conditions, enhancing the varietal's characteristic flavors. The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve its fresh fruit profile, followed by aging in neutral oak barrels to add subtle complexity without overpowering the fruit. This Carmenere showcases vibrant notes of dark berries and spices, with a smooth, medium-bodied palate and balanced acidity, making it suitable for immediate enjoyment or short-term cellaring.
