Masterful vintage of Cos D'Estournel, with 2012 being a notable misstep. The 2016 vintage, however, was a revelation, with each sip revealing a new facet of the wine. The initial flavors of blackcurrant and leather gave way to blackberry and pencil, before yielding to a lush jam-like finish. The tannins were elegant, with a perfect integration of profile and finesse, accompanied by a lingering aftertaste that left a resonant impression.

A rich, smooth wine with a deep, bold colour. Its nose is powered by by dark fruit notes, offering cherry, blueberry, and violets, with light subtle flavors of cedar, tobacco, and leather. The taste is similarly complex, featuring bold fruit flavours, including blackberry and mocha, alongside cedar, tobacco, and a suggestion of smoke. The follow through is long and dry, with a comforting juiciness that lingers. The tannins are high, yet smooth, and the crispness is high, making this a wine that will age well. It's an outstanding St. Estephe that reveals much now and has amazing potential for the future. It pairs well with red meat, distinctly beef or lamb, or can be enjoyed on its own as a sophisticated accompaniment to meditation.
