The 2021 Amalaya Malbec presents a deep, inky purple hue, indicative of its rich concentration. On the nose, it offers an enticing bouquet of ripe blackberries, plums, and violets, underscored by subtle hints of black pepper and mocha. The palate is robust and full-bodied, with velvety tannins providing a firm structure. Layers of dark fruit flavors are complemented by a touch of minerality, reflecting its high-altitude origins in Argentina's Salta region. The finish is long and harmonious, with a lingering note of spice. This Malbec exemplifies the balance and intensity characteristic of premium Andean terroir.

We are 50+ wine professionals (sommeliers, buyers, MW candidates) across the US, UK, France, Greece, Italy, and beyond. We review wines via blind tastings with a standardized rubric, using both 100-point and 5-star scales.

Amalaya Malbec is crafted in the high-altitude vineyards of Salta, Argentina, where the combination of intense sunlight and cool nights enhances the grape's natural acidity and flavor concentration. This wine is predominantly Malbec, with small additions of other varietals to enhance complexity. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fresh fruit character, followed by a brief aging period in French oak to add subtle structure and depth. The result is a vibrant, fruit-forward wine with notes of dark berries and a touch of spice, intended for immediate enjoyment or short-term aging.
