Top 3 Wine Pairings (with reasons) for Kentucky Fried Chicken
3 minutes readJul 24, 2025VinoVoss Publication
KFC, or Kentucky Fried Chicken, has been one of the most successful fast food chains ever. However, after some turbulent recent years, it has lost its popularity. In a comeback effort, it's giving out free meals to everyone in America, so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity for you to test out these four amazing KFC + wine pairings!
Pairing Fried Chicken with Wine: Basic Principles
Fried chicken is a rich, oily dish, and a great opportunity to see basic food and wine pairing principles come to life. To complement the oiliness in the food, wines with high acidity are an amazing pairing. The natural acids of the wine cut through the fat of the chicken and freshen up your palate. This way, you are ready for the next tasty chicken bite, and you also crave the next wine sip!
The wine should also pair with the flavour of deep-fried chicken. In general, a wine with a touch of yeasty flavours pairs great with the earthy chicken flavours. Finally, you should consider the spiciness level and the flavour of any sauces you choose. Spicy food is ideal for bold wine pairing selections, including aromatic and off-dry wines.

Pairing Kentucky Fried Chicken with Champagne - The classic match
Champagne fits like a glove to Fried Chicken. The high acidity of the Champagne and its elegant bubbles balance out the richness of the dish and bring it to another level! What's more, the yeasty flavours of the wine are a perfect match with the flavour of the chicken. This is a must-try wine pairing for any wine lover!

4.0(2)Pairing Spicy Fried Chicken with off-dry Chenin Blanc - Taming the spice
The ideal match to spicy foods is a tiny hint of residual sugar in wines. The sweetness reduces the spicy feeling on the palate, highlighting its hidden flavours instead! At the same time, picking a high-acid grape like Chenin Blanc also fits with the richness of the food.
Pairing Fried Chicken with Beaujolais - Experience the Unexpected
Red wine goes with red meat, right? While that's a great rule of thumb, red wines are so diverse that some excellent pairings can form where you least expect it. Red wines with high acidity, like Beaujolais, are a perfect match for the rich Fried Chicken flavours. In addition its low tannins don't contrast any spiciness of the dish, allowing the pairing to work at all spice levels! Plus, Beaujolais often offers earthy flavours, in combination with the vibrant red fruit notes, bringing a touch of harmonious freshness on the nose.
