St. Laurent

St. Laurent is a red wine grape from Austria, which has a distinctive blackberry aroma.

The St. Laurent grape produces deep purple-coloured wines that are full-bodied, with an intense aroma of blackberry and a hint of smokiness and a good balance of tannins and acidity.

St. Laurent is grown mainly in Austria, where it is one of the most widely planted grape varieties. It is also found in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany. St. Laurent grapes prefer a cool climate. Late frosts could be a risk to the vines, which could be reduced by having deep soil or irrigation system. In the winery, St. Laurent wines are usually fermented at relatively low temperatures and aged in large oak casks. In Austria, St. Laurent wines are produced usually made into a dry style, even though some sweet styles exist. The dry wines are usually in deep purple colour, with its iconic dark cherry aromas and silky tannin. St. Laurent wines pair well with a wide range of dishes, from game dishes to fish and poultry. The dry, lighter-bodied styles are particularly good with grilled meats, while the sweeter styles are ideal for dessert.

St.

Laurent is sometimes referred to as "The Black Pinot" due to its similarity in colour and aroma to Pinot Noir.
