Vampire is a wine producer whose first wine, released by Michael Machat in 1988 while he was living in London, was a full-bodied Algerian Syrah bottled in France. An Italian Sangiovese followed. In 1995, Machat found a home for his idea in Transylvania. In 2007, the Machat family moved their wine production from Transylvania to California, with the first California production in Paso Robles.

The Machat family also established a winery in Napa, where its wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
