Scharffenberger Cellars was founded in 1981 by John Scharffenberger. In 1989, Champagne Pommery became a partner in the winery, and Tex Sawyer served as winemaker starting that year. In 1992, Scharffenberger Cellars donated 63 acres to the Anderson Valley Land Trust for the conservation of Indian Creek. In 2004, the winery joined the Roederer Collection under the ownership of Maison Louis Roederer. Jeffrey Jindra took over winemaking operations in early 2018, becoming the third winemaker in the winery's history.

The winery is located in Anderson Valley in Northern California's Mendocino County. For its sparkling wine production, non-vintage blends incorporate an average of 12% reserve wine. Wines are individually bottle-fermented prior to riddling and disgorgement, and bottles age on the lees for a minimum of 24 months. Prior to release, the bottles are riddled, disgorged, dosed, and aged on the cork for 6 months.
On VinoVoss, Scharffenberger has 1 wine in stock: 1 sparkling. Their average rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 1 rating.
