Oak Valley Estate was founded in 1898 by Sir Antonie Viljoen, a medical doctor and graduate of Edinburgh University in Scotland. Viljoen also established the first commercial apple orchards in the Elgin Valley.

Oak Valley focuses almost exclusively on Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Its vineyards lie between 300 and 500 metres above sea level, with most facing south to south-east on cooler sites. Although the Atlantic Ocean is approximately 21 kilometres away, the elevation and surrounding mountains result in very little maritime influence. The vineyards receive close to 1,000 millimetres of rain annually, partly because of their proximity to the Groenlandberg mountain. Their predominantly reddish-brown, iron-rich gravelly topsoils sit above structured clay, with soft, weathered porous shale deeper down.
On VinoVoss, Oak Valley has 3 wines in stock: 1 red, 2 white. Their average rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 96 ratings.
