El Capricho

El Capricho is a family winery operated by Dirk, who is originally from Germany, together with his family. The family property covers more than 200 hectares.

The winery is located in Villa del Carmen, 250 km north of Montevideo. The estate encompasses 7 hectares of vineyards, which were planted in the years 2003 and 2004. The grape varieties grown on the estate are Tannat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Verdejo, Pinot Noir, Tempranillo, and Merlot. Its wines include Aguará Special Reserve (Tannat and Tannat Blend) and El Capricho Reserve. Aguará Special Reserve is produced only in selected vintages and is aged for 18 months in small, first-use French oak barrels, while El Capricho Reserve is aged in small French and American oak barrels.
