In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A., and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro S.A., sealed a partnership agreement to create a Franco-Chilean wine called Almaviva. It was the first wine in Chile created under the French Château concept. Produced under the joint technical supervision of both partners, its first vintage launched in 1998.

Almaviva is located on the northern bank of the Maipo River at 650 meters above sea level at the foot of the Andes cordillera. The estate has 65 hectares of productive vineyards, and the oldest vineyards were planted in Puente Alto in 1978. Varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, with Cabernet Sauvignon being the most cultivated. Its wines include Almaviva.
