WINE DESCRIPTION
Sassaia Nebbia Monferrato Rosso is a unusual red wine from Piemonte. It is made from a local grape known as Albarossa. Albarossa is a corssing between Barbera and the obscure French grape, Chatus, which hails fromt he Ardeche region. Althoiugh cleared for use in 1977, Albarossa has remained a niche variety. A survey conducted in 2000 indicated that there were less than 10 hectares of Alabrosa planted in all of Italy. It is similar to the better known Nebbiolo in that it has thick skins that yield high levels of grippy tannins but its acidity is less pronounced. Expect a full bodied and deeply colored red wine with notes of redcurrant fruit and violets with grippy tannins and balanced acidity. This is an excellent choice for those who enjoy encountering unique grape varieties or enjoy Piemontese-style dining.
