WINE DESCRIPTION

Quinta do Portal 29 Grapes Reserve Ruby Port is produced from traditional red varieties from the Douro Valley such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. The Douro is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. Located in Northeast Portugal, within the Douro River valley, surrounded by craggy mountains that give it very particular soil and climacteric characteristics. Quinta do Portal properties are located in the Cima-Corgo subregion with the vineyards spread between 5 estates that have different altitudes and solar exposures and the variety of grape varieties allow us to produce a diversity of blending options. After maceration at 28-30ºC in both stainless steel “Lagares” and closed tanks, the wines are aged for between 4 and 5 years.

Region: Douro

The Douro Valley in Portugal is one of the oldest and most iconic wine regions in the world. Located in the north of the country, the region is renowned for its stunning scenery and its production of world-class fortified wines. The Douro Valley was first demarcated in 1756 and originally applied only to port production. It was extended to include table wine in 1979, with the first glimmer of the region’s potential for non-fortified still red wines appearing when port shippers Casa Ferreirinha launched Barca Velha in 1952. The focus on table wines did not take hold until the 1990’s, following Portugal’s accession to the EU.
