Wine Description:
The Marco Bonfante Barbera d'Asti Superiore Stella Rossa is a standout red from the rolling hills of Asti in Piedmont, Italy. Coming from a family-run winery with generations of experience, this wine is made from carefully selected Barbera grapes, which flourish in the region's limestone-clay soils. As a "Superiore," the wine is subject to stricter production regulations, including a higher minimum alcohol content and aging requirements. Marco Bonfante employs traditional winemaking techniques, aging the wine in French oak barrels to add complexity and structure without overpowering the fruit's natural vibrancy.
Pros:
  • Intense and vibrant red color

Wine Expert Note:

In the glass, the Stella Rossa Barbera d'Asti Superiore displays a deep ruby color with purplish undertones. The nose captivates with generous aromas of ripe dark fruits—think blackberries, plums, and cherries—complemented by hints of vanilla, tobacco, and subtle spices. On the palate, the wine offers a rich, velvety texture with a robust fruit core and balanced acidity. Flavors of dark berries are elevated by layers of spice, mocha, and a delicate woodiness. The tannins are well-integrated, offering both structure and a long, smooth finish that lingers with a hint of dark chocolate and spice. This is a sumptuous Barbera d'Asti Superiore that pairs beautifully with hearty Italian dishes or stands alone as a wine of exceptional character.

Fabrizio Luli, the owner of Cantina Luli, grew up in Piemonte, in a restaurant family. For over 60 years, the Iuli family served award winning Piedmontese cuisine. However, it was the locals asking for a house wine that got Fabrizio interested in winemaking. Fabrizio Luli likes to make his wines in the Piedmontese tradition, using cement and oak. Based on the characteristic white earth and the minerality of the soils he aims to make subtle wines. Wines that are elegant, fresh, crisp, vibrant and easy to drink. The Luli Umberta is his entry level wine. The wine has a bright ruby red colour. The nose has scents of red fruits and violets. The palate is fresh, smooth and juicy with lively tannins.
