The state has a long history of wine production, dating back to the 17th century when the first vines were planted by European settlers. Today, Maryland is home to over 100 wineries and vineyards, producing a wide range of wines from classic European varietals to unique hybrid grapes.

Some of the most commonly grown grape varieties in the state include Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, and Chardonnay. Maryland is also known for its unique hybrid grapes, such as Traminette and Seyval Blanc, which are well-suited to the state's climate and soil conditions.
