Santa Sofia is a rare Italian white variety, that is often confused with Fiano
Santa Sofia is white southern Italian grape. Its flavour profile is quite aromatic, with lots of floral, citrus and sometimes tropical fruits. It used to be confused with Fiano a lot.
It was grown mainly in the provinces of Salerno and Basilicata in Campania Santa Sofia is a low yielding and late ripening variety. The grapes are usually harvested in October and blended with Fiano, Trebbiano Toscano and other local varieties in Cilento DOC. Santa Sofia is primarily grown in the provinces of Salerno and Basilicata and blended with other local varieties in the Cilento DOC. Santa Sofia is an excellent accompaniment to seafood dishes and light salads.
DNA profiling has shown that Santa Sofia is genetically close to Rosso Antico, another local variety no longer in cultivation.
