Juan Garcia is a Spanish red grape variety, known for its aromatic and flavourful wines.
Juan Garcia produces wines that are deeply coloured and highly perfumed with herbal and red-fruit flavours and moderate alcohol. On the palate, the wines have a good acidity and slightly grippy tannins.
Juan Garcia is a speciality of the Fermoselle area in the province of Zamora, western Spain. It is also grown in Castilla y Leon but also further north in Galicia. In is also grown in northern Portugal, where it is know as Gorda. Juan Garcia is a vigorous grape high yielding grape variety that is well adapted to hot climates. In the winery, the variety is fermented on the skins for a short period of time to extract more of its aromas and flavours. The wines produced from Juan Garcia are typically light-bodied and fruity and low in alcohol. Juan Garcia pairs well with light pastas or simple stews. It can also be enjoyed on its own or as an aperitif.
Juan Garcia grapes often tend to shrivel very easily when ripe, giving higher sugar levels in the berries and in the wine.
