Flora is a white grape variety created by by Dr. Harold Olmo in 1938. It is a crossing of Gewürztraminer and Semillon.
Flora produces wines with light golden color. They are aromatic, with notes of honeysuckle, lychee, apricot and spice. The taste profile is highly aromatic, with a sweet tropical fruit flavour and a round finish.
Flora is grown in California. Flora grapes are low in acidity , which makes it perfect to produce off-dry or sweet wines. Flora, single varietal or in blend, is used to produce dry white wines, off-dry to sweet wines, as well as sparkling wines. Flora's intense aromas and sweet flavour make it a great match for spicy dishes. It also pairs well with cheeses, such as Brie, Camembert and blue cheese.
Another red grape variety bears the name of Flora but is seldom used for winemaking, it has no connections to the white variety.
