Carminoir is a Swiss cross of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir,
Carminoir produces deeply coloured wines with full-bodied, powerful tannins and aromas of dried rasin, prunes, plums, and sweet spices.
Carminoir is mainly grown in the Valais and Ticino, Switzerland Carminoir has relatively high vigour, compact, medium-sized bunches of small berries. It is uaed in blends, usually with Merlot and aged in oak barrels to increase complexity. Carminoir can pair well with rich foods such as red meats, game, mature cheeses.
Carminoir is the first Swiss cross obtained in 1982 at the Caudoz viticultural research centre in Pully.
