Carmine is a minor north American red cross variety, with Cabernet characteristics
Carmine is a black variety, which has a deep colour, tannic structure, capsicum aroma and flavour, often used in blends.
The grape is mainly grown in the US, in a small number of places, such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Oregon, Colorado and Kentucky. It is late budding and late ripening, with large bunches and is productive. Carmine wines pair well with tomato-based dishes, grilled meats, and hard cheeses.
Carmine is a crossing between two half-siblings, with one of its parents being Merlot and a quarter of Cabernet Sauvignon in the other half.
