Black Muscat

Black Muscat is a black-skinned, aromatic grape variety, with plantings all around the globe. It is mostly used for dessert wines but also dry and sparkling wines can be found. Grape Colour, Aromas and Taste Profile: Black Muscat grapes are small, almost round, with a deep, black-purple colour. They have a sweet, floral aroma, with hints of grape, rose and violets. The taste profile is that of a sweet, juicy wine, with rich flavours of berries and honey. Where is it Grown: Primarily grown in continental climates. Black Muscat is a popular grape variety in Italy, where it is used for making a variety of dessert wines. It is also grown in France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Spain and the United States. Viticulture and Winemaking: Black Muscat grapes are best grown in a continental climate, with warm days and cool nights. The grapes are harvested in August to mid-September, when they are at their peak maturity. The grapes are then made in to a light red wine or directly pressed for a refreshing style of rose.
