Wine Description:
Penfolds Grange is a legendary Australian wine. The first landmark wine that the country produced in the earlier phase of its industry, it is the original icon. The wine is renowned for its exceptional quality and long-lived character. This wine, primarily based upon the Shiraz grape with some support from Cabernet Sauvigon that varies with the vintage, has a deep, ruby hue and a complex nose of dark chocolate, licorice, and sweet blackberry. On the palate, dark fruits and herbal flavors combine with a firm yet fine grained tannin structure, leading to a long and distinguished finish. Wine Expert Note:

Penfolds Grange is opaque in color in the glass. On the nose it shows a very intense profile of ripe balckberry, cherry, and sweet spices. The palate is broad, with a deep concentration of fruit upon the mid-palate with the fine grained tannins and balanced acidity offer a counterpoint to the richness. The finish is long and perisistent with notes of mocha, cedar anmd dried fruits. This wine will need to be decanted about two hours before drinking to show at its best. Try with roast lamb shoulder. Wine acidity refers to the tartness of a wine, which gives a tingling sensation on the side of the tongue. A metallic-like sharp taste is also associated with high acidity. Sometimes a high level of sweetness, such as in luscious dessert wines, can disguise a high level of acidity. Acidity can range from soft to searing.

Wine tannin gives wine its textural mouthfeel and astringency. Tannin is a natural compound found in grape skins, seeds, and stems. It contributes to the structure and helps to balance out the sweetness of the fruit. Tannins are usually discussed when it comes to red wines, even though some white and rosé wines with certain wine making techniques can also contain tannins.
